I wasn't being flippant... But when someone accuses me of voting, which I consider one of the greatest of freedom, as a threat, how else should I respond?

Voting and freedom have absolutely NOTHING to do with each other. They vote in Iraq and guess who wins every time. They vote in Mexico and for 72 consecutive years the PRI won. Freedom is only possible when individual Rights are protected, rather than stolen, by the State.
