What a tremendous article. Thank you for posting.

Sadly, I understand the Melbourne ending up being sold to the Chinese, supposedly for scrap. There is some speculation it was used to help the Chinese program to build an aircraft carrier, which would be a sad end for an Australian ship.

If the Chinese want to study a 1940s-vintage Colossus-class CVL for tips on carrier design, I couldn't be happier. British carrier design was absolutely inept next to ours; they wound up paying off all but one WW2-vintage carrier by 1960, where we kept ours in service for another ten years and even considered bringing back the Oriskany in 1981 (if she'd been better preserved at her decommissioning, Lehman would have approved it).
