That's not what I said. All the specially made ink in the world, all the gee-whiz gizmos in the world, etc. are only as good as the humans who deal with them; all are vulnerable to human error. And with INS's rep of late, it appears that INS has its fair share of erring humans.

Hence the story.

Thanks, keep me on your list. I don't respond all the time because I'm here at work, but I do read all the posts you send.

I'd go for a 10 year moratorium on immigration, with two exceptions: Doctors and Nurses.

So...uh...they appropriate funds and...ahem...change the design and small-print code of the stamp?

I voted for Bush proudly. I have not agreed with him on many issues, but I have always thought him an honest man. I was not an apologist nor was I one to jump on the Bush-Bashing bandwagon when he made a policy decision I did not like.

However, now I am becoming concerned. Has he sold us out? I don't think it is that simple for I still believe in his honesty.

Still I ask, "What the f is going on?" Why is it so important to appease the left?

The appearance is he has turned his back on the base. Reality or Opportunistic spin by the left? I am waiting for him to come to the Nation & say "Look, I know there are questions.....this is why. This will help you understand."

Your absolutely correct, none of us inspectors pay attention to what we do. Your the expert here, with all your experience in INS.

As I am sure that you and a few others at the INS take your job very seriously and thank you for that

But you have to admit there are a few at the INS that don't do their job properly

Used to call it "kicking them upstairs." The person who should have been responsible for security at the INS office in WA will probably be promoted to a branch chief after this incident. Can't wait to hear about all the "Federal" airport workers who do a lousy job at the screening checkpoint and next thing you know, they're a supervisor!

10 years sounds about right to me as well.

Very good point. I'm sure the border agents that work on the Washington / Canadian border will know to be on the lookout for stamp #2350124 but what about those down at Mexico? Is the INS going to put out an ABP for everyone that is stamped with that particular ID? I would like to think so, but I doubt it.

Does this mean we are now at red-orange alert, or still just yellow?

INS here is a joke. We had a child in our home who was a foreign citizen and his visa was about to expire. Our adoption agency called INS to ask them about it and they said to not worry, they had no time to track down all the illegal aliens in this state and they were not going to come and get this child.
We ended up taking him to Moscow to be adopted on the day his visa expired, only because getting out on the expired visa may have caused us problems.

If career employees can be fired, the Travel Office fiasco would never have occurred.

Right, and for all we know, those stamps are in New York by now or something. In fact they probably planned to steal them out here for use on the east coast.

Kicking them upstairs

The "golden escalator" as opposed to the golden parachute.
