Why wouldn't Independents vote for Bush to show their support? Why the assumption that one, they'll actually come out and vote and two, they'll vote in the 'RAT primaries? Check your premises (at the door).

There's a certain percentage of people that ALWAYS vote because they consider it their civic duty. In 2004, the independents in this group will grab RAT ballots because any potential challenger to Bush on the GOP side will be irrelevant, and they'll want their vote to count for something.

I don't know why indies are ever allowed to vote in party primaries anyway. It should be illegal in all 50 states.
