Report: Chandra's Family Believes Condit Did It
CNSNEWS.com ^ | 5/29/02 | Susan Jones

The Chandra Levy murder remains in Wednesday's headlines, mainly because the "whodunit" has a political link.

According to The Hill , a newspaper covering the Capitol, the Levy family considers Rep. Gary Condit -- a California Democrat -- a suspect in Chandra's murder.

Chandra's family mourned her death on Tuesday, just hours after the D.C. medical examiner ruled that the 24-year-old woman had been murdered. Based on the skeletal remains found in a Washington park, however, the medical examiner could not say exactly how she was killed.

According to The Hill , Chandra's family is now redoubling their efforts to link Chandra's death to Condit, who lost the Democratic primary in March - and therefore, will lose his seat in Congress in January.

Condit is "in seclusion," according to his aides.

A Levy family source told The Hill , "We believe that in her final days on this earth that he [Condit] found out that other people knew about the affair, and we believe that he was trying to break off the relationship."

According to the police investigation, Condit's wife Carolyn was in Washington when Chandra disappeared.

And if I may ask...do you spend endless hours investigating all missing persons cases...or just the ones involving Rats? ,

Interesting questions. I believe the liberal press went after the story because of pent up frustrations about not going after Clinton. In other words, Condit became a whipping boy for Clinton.

As to why everyone else is following this, I believe the whole thing is the stuff of intrigue like Dianna's death. It may be an added bonus that he is a RAT. Personally I like to follow it but I think the evidence against Condit is pretty thin and I would not vote to convict him if I were a juror.

One has to wonder..why does condit still have aides?

I believe phone records showed he called his former mistress Anna Marie, at midnight from a Luray pay phone. Remember how she stated that Condit stated he had to 'lie low for awhile'. I don't recall if Condit ever explained his presence there. Perhaps a late evening drive on his motorcycle.

Good point!

When Chandra turned up missing and a link was found to the park, my husband and I were saying that if it were our child we sure would be in that park and search for her. And if we had the money, we would hire a PI, never a lawyer. Especially not Monica's Mom's lawyer. Right away it made at least some people, perhaps also the investigators, suspect Chandra had run away.

Lawyer Martin sure didn't do the Levys any good. Who was the nitwit who recommended him to the grieving parents?

And the man STILL hasn't figured out a reasonable alibi one year later.

The possibility of strangulation and tied leggings, if anything, give greater credibility to that stewardess' claim that he was into kinky sex and might have had something to do with her death.

Perhaps they had one last fling and it was disastrous. Perhaps she WAS moved from his apt. (They never mentioned the physical evidence they took from his apt.)

Whatever the outcome, at this point her discovery has only brought MORE attention to the possibility of Condit really having done the venal deed.

Thannx for the honesty...I agree with you, but I am afraid that many here have already made the judgement that he is QUILTY no matter what evidence (or lack of) shows. And even though he is a Rat, he still deserves to be innocent till proven guilty.

Yes, I did. She still seems a little scared and not willing to say too much in public. She says she has evidence of his sexual exploits and friends who participated. Hope she stays safe.

Given the proximity of Condit's and Chandra's apts. to the park, it is stunning that more effort was not spent in that park. They searched 63% of it, but were willing to tear up a parking lot in Virginia based on one person's gut feeling. Either this body was moved or the DC people have blown this big-time.

"To offer up a $10,000 reward IMMEDIATELY upon hearing from Mrs. Levy seems like a "Freudian slip" to me."

He also knew he'd never have to pay it since it offered the money only upon her "safe return".

Our local radio host interviewed a pathologist, Dr. Michael Bobbin (sp?), this morning. He had several interesting things to say about the Medical Examiner's report. He said that the custom for how much the M.E. would reveal varies from place to place, but that they are careful not to give information which would be helpful to the killer.

He said that he believes they WILL catch the killer, and that trace evidence is not as important as just plain following up on all clues.

However, as far as trace evidence is concerned, he mentioned the earlier report that the skull had been injured, and said that it could be an important clue. He said that, after all, they were able to identify the remains of the Romanovs 75 years after they were murdered.

Rats are kinda like my kids. Even if they didn't do what I punish them for they probably did something else that deserved punishing. :)

"I heard it from Mrs. Levy's own mouth. In a TV interview she said he offered the reward the first time she spoke with condit about the wherabouts of Chandra. This was before the Leveys were terribly concerned about her. That was a very telling statement for me & I have continued to see him act guilty."

If Condit did NOT know Chandra was in terrible trouble or dead, it seems to me to be an extraordinarily thoughtless thing to say to her parents who were, not at that time, very worried about her. Why would you scare the parents by immediately offering a reward for someone who was just missing for a few days? Saying that to them immediately upon hearing that they had not heard from their daughter for a few days would just serve to upset them, perhaps entirely unnecessarily. Condit didn't realize how other people would react to a lot of the things he did and said because he had conciousness of guilt and was concerned only with himself and beating the rap, IMHO.

VRWC_minion pretty well sums up how I feel about this. I hope it was pretty obvious that I was poking fun at myself a little. I think this is a very interesting case and follow it, but I certainly don't try to "investigate."

Something's amiss here...according to the OJ playbook, Condit should be out searching for Chandra's killer or killers.

To add one more thing to my last post, most successful politicians by far (and Condit was certainly a successful politician, having been elected and re-elected several times) are very good at knowing just what to say and do in situations that could either benefit them or hurt them. That Condit has spoken and behaved so strangely and so suspiciously since Chandra's disappearance seems to me rather damning. Again, I would suggest that conciousness of guilt has been throwing him off his game.
