This conflict is 55 years old. The 1947 UN Security Council resolution called for Pakistan to stop military support of conflict in Kashmir, and for India to hold a referendum, to determine the "peoples'" wishes in Kashmir.

To date, both Pakistan and India have failed to observe the UN "directive." Some believe Kashmir would opt to be independent, but Pakistan, India and China do not want an independent Kashmir. Playground for Al Qaeda and Taliban.

Not good. So far, India hasn't blamed Pakistan for any of the violence in Gujarat, but the Indian forces are only one major terrorist incident away from launching an assault against Pakistan.

I suspect, and hope, that this isn't the kind of incident that would trigger it, but there are terrorist elements who would just love to see war start.
