It seems to me that the problem with this analysis is that an Al Qaeda 'Fatahland' would directly border India and be a direct threat to India. One which they would take care of. Between us and India we could well handle any attempt to create one.
So if India smashes Pakistan into little bits, it's not as if they couldn't handle the pieces.

I am inclined to agree that India's crushing Pakistan would be a net long run positive development for the good guys, even if it results in a nuclear exchange. While an Indian occupation of what's left would be difficult, it would be achievable. American forces would not be needed, except perhaps as advisors, and that the Brits can do in India better than we can.
