The deal the USA made with the Dalai Lama is he would flee Tibet, set up a government in exile and we would provide all the supplies his troops in Tibet needed. He did his part. Kennedy sold him out. Estimates are 85,000 Tibetan troops were slaughtered in the final battle.

I twas at that point that the Dalai Lama decided military resistence to Chinese communism was futile, it would only lead to every Tibetan being exterminated.
