I have heard that a lot how women do prefer men who are around 5 inches taller than they. However, I have always liked men who are around 2 or 3 inches taller than me, because it feels like a good fit. My husband is a tall guy, but that's okey, I like him anyway!

During my alone period which lasted around 6 years when I was in my 20s, I didn't even have many girlfriends. I would just mostly go to work, go to the grocery store, come home, eat and read and go to bed. One of my friends had to raise 2 babies and had to work, so she didn't have much time to spend with me. So I had my one friend Karen who was single too, and since I love to cook, I'd cook a nice dinner and Karen would come over and eat with me. We'd go shopping and generally hang out, and she too wanted to meet someone but had a hard time as well. I think it's harder to meet people in a big city.

People did tell me to learn to be happy with myself and that it wasn't necessary to have a man to be happy, but I couldn't help it, I just really wanted to find a boyfriend. Of course a lot has happened since then to make up for those 6 boring years. I went back to school, ended up meeting lots of nice people, and finally got married.

I am also very interested in human nature. Even on Free Republic, as in real life, there are people who are totally unreasonable and off-the-wall, though most seem very nice, and some really nice! I used to think there had to be a way to get through to difficult people, but since then I have come to the conclusion that each person's brain is wired in a certain way, and their personalities and characteristics are set. What you said in an earlier post is so very true, and young people who tend to be idealistic need to know that indeed it is IMPOSSIBLE to change people!

That is funny what you said about the clicking language, I was thinking about that when I wrote you about the Yupik language. The first time I heard it was in "The Gods Must be Crazy" which I loved, but I wasn't sure whether that was a real language or whether they were adding sound effects. Then I found out it is the real language of the Kalahari Bushmen. The Yupik language is just as wierd because they have all these throat spitting sounds with hard K sounds. I have tried to pronounce some of the words and it's next to impossible! I wish you could hear it, you would get a kick out of it I think! Is the Afrikaans (sp?) language anything like Dutch? Does it have those clearing of the throat sounds like Dutch?

It's somewhat a Dutch patois; the original Afrikaaners were mostly Dutch, but also Germans and French too.I find it difficult to master , becuase it also is a lot like German ( which I have forgotten a lot of ) and I tend to confuse myself, thinking that I know what a word means in Afrikaans, because I know what something similar sounding, in German , means.

Now , that you describe it more fully, I think that I may have heard that Eskimo language spoken , on some program, or other.

That WAS a great movie !

Yes some people here, are just so damned mired in what they imagine they know ( whether it is true or not ! ) , blinded by their own biases, and / or ONLY take pleasure in fighting those whom they see as an " ENEMY " ( so that it doesn't ever matter to them when that person says something true / of value ... they'll just try to shred them anyway ! ) , that it is worse than futile to respond to them. Sometimes, it's worth the bother, so that lurkers and other posters get to see both sides. Mostly, it's just best to ignore the sillier post .

It IS , IMO , more difficult to meet prospective dates / mates in a big city . even when you're from one. OTOH, by joining clubs and activiies that your interested in, one has a much larger selection, than if one lived in a tiny village. A lot of the dating game has to do with luck and being in the " right " place, at the " right " time. : - )

If I were a guy I wouldn't touch her either!! Just having to work with her 5 days a week for years was hard at times. I knew she led a terrible lifestyle, I mean really! She didn't even act ashamed over it although she did express a wish to find someone to settle down with, but she was an alcoholic who drank (I think a 5th?) of vodka every night after work. That is such a miserable way to be. I would try to talk to her about giving up drinking and sleeping with several different guys a week (!), but it just went in one ear and out the other. It made me sad to witness her decline through the years. And she always borrowed money that she never paid back.

But heck no!! I wouldn't want to go out with her either if I were a guy! Eek!

There was a time in her youth when she could have turned herself around, but she didn't want to listen. She has ruined her life. Many of the young girls of today will have the same experience. But, they will not listen either. They don't want anything spoiling their "fun."

What matters most to women, more than money, or intelligence, or whether or not the man is homosexual, or an ex-con, or an addict, etc. is how tall he is.

99% of all american women are shorter than their husbands.

More women marry homosexuals than they do short men.

There is no other factor that is higher than 99%.

I had to respond to this one. I almost laughed myself silly. I'm 5'1", and very male, and never had much of a problem getting dates. I've lost count of how many women I dated, but I know for certain that only two of them were my height or shorter. The woman I ended up marrying, the woman who bore my childre, and the woman who's still with me after all these years happens to be 11" taller than I am. At the risk of bragging, I'll even say that she's stunningly beautiful.

I don't know what attracts women to men. I'd even go so far as to say I'm clueless, but I can say with some certainty that it isn't height. It's not possible for one man to meet that many exceptions.

Yes it is possible for one man to meet that many exceptions.

It seems to me, that you happen to attract very intelligent women, who are in that 1%. Good for you, and my congratulations to your wife who dared to marry shorter than herself.

We already know that men pass over ugly women. If women pass over dumb men, then after millions of years all of us men should be as smart as Steven Hawking, and all the women should look like Anna Kournakova.

I guess that means either the Creator is a mischievous practical joker, or procreation is the direct result of intoxication.
