From the context of your statement concerning abortion, what I'm going to say next may likely anger you. I want to make it clear here that I don't approve of abortion except in cases or rape, incest or to save a woman's life. In this particular case statutory rape and the child's age were no doubt taken into consideration in the descision to abort.
An abortion is medically necessary because at that young age carrying a baby to full term will kill her. Giving birth is not for children and even fully grown women die in childbirth.
Though it is certainly much rarer now for women to die giving birth than in the past, it is also true that the trend is toward women having children later in life, when their bodies are mature, rather than in their teen years, the norm in the early 20th, 19th and 18th centuries.
During those time periods as many as 40% to 50% of women died in childbirth, a very high mortality rate. The rate for death during childbirth is higher in the Middle East than in the West though the causes may have to do with other factors, such as lack of medical facilities and hygeine, rather than just the young ages of the pregnant women.
There are doctors who can easily be induced to do literally anything. Boundary violations with patients have become epidemic, doctors starve terminal patients to death by withdrawing IVs and nutrition (with court approval!), illegally euthanize elderly patients with morphine overdose. The Hippocratic Oath is no longer taken seriously and they are even contemplating it's elimenation. Welcome to Brave New World!
I will never forget the materials stating that 16 year olds should be able to do whatever adults did. I had almost no support from clergy in fighting this. They keeled over and played dead, even though it was a conservative and largely Evangelical town.
The most hostility I have received from church members has been from being pro-life and pro-hetero.
As much as I'm opposed to abortion, believing that the only time it's appropriate is if the mother's life is in danger, this is probably one of those times. While a 10 year old's ovaries and uterous may be mature enough to be impregnated, the rest of her body certainly isn't, especially her pelvic region. If she kept the baby to term, she would certainly be forced to have a c-section, if she survived the pregnancy.

"BRIDGEPORT -- Residents of the Harborview Towers senior citizen complex Thursday said they were not surprised by the arrest of fellow resident Jimmy Kave, charged with impregnating a 10-year-old girl.
"He always had little girls around him," said one woman, who didn't want to be identified. "We thought it was disgraceful."
On Wednesday, the 75-year-old Kave was charged with multiple counts of first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor for allegedly having intercourse with the girl several times during a year at his apartment in the East Washington Avenue apartment complex.
The girl, now 11, is six months pregnant and has been taken from her mother's custody by the state Department of Children and Families. The DCF also has launched an investigation into the case.
Kave is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond for arraignment April 30."

"Houston Police are asking for the public's help trying to find a runaway who's eight and half months pregnant. The girl is TEN years old-- and authorities fear she may give birth while on the run. Cindy Garcia apparently posed as a 14-year old applying for welfare benefits.
Authorities moved her to an emergency children's shelter, but Garcia ran away Sunday.
Police think Garcia is heading to Mexico to meet up with her 22-year old boyfriend, believed to be the baby's father.
Authorities think Garcia will have to have a Caesarean section to ensure the safety of the newborn and the 10-year old mother."

"Montel Williams, during his show on November 11, 1999, exclaimed in exasperation, "Why cant we do something about this?" In this show, he uncovered the details of a pregnant 10-year-old girl, who had been raped several times by the 18-year-old son of her mothers live-in boyfriend. Although this story may seem unusual and/or fodder for a dramatic Montel Williams show, it is sadly all too common."
