I said "pretty much" the way laws are made. Most people reading that wouldn't take that to mean "absolutely" or "exclusively". Elsewhere in that message, I posted that our laws are made up of various considerations.
There is no one who could write something sufficiently flawless that others here couldn't misconstrue it.
So here's a suggestion: Try to read the totality of what someone is saying instead of always playing "gotcha" with insignificant semantic subtleties. Otherwise, responding to you guys is just tedious.
Sorry, I wasn't playing "gotcha." I truly misunderstood you.
I thought you were both suggesting that there is no higher moral law, and that there is. Since I found that confusion throughout your posts on the thread (could have been my fault) I thought I'd point it out here to see what you would have to say.
I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. No need to respond.
Shalom.
About this you are absolutely correct. Religion is a lifestyle choice. As for the discrimination issue, the various forms of religion had been tolerated for generations in the US because they were generally not considered to be destructive to society. I'm not sure I can make that claim any more, but it was true for a long time.
Tolerance of homosex is destructive. Yet I would not support any discrimination against people with the disorder. I haven't made up my mind that anti-sodomy laws are appropriate. I have made up my mind that you shouldn't teach my kids that homosex lovers are normal. I have also made up my mind that we should not re-define marriage to cater to the whims of people with this disorder.
You can call that discrimination if you like. I'm not sure it follows that not granting homosex partners legal marital status is discrimination. There are all sorts of living arrangements that don't get legal recognition.
But as for hiring and firing and so forth, I'm against discrimination. It doesn't sit well with my 'love the sinner while hating the sin' philosophy.
Shalom.
