"So lobbing missles around should not be viewed as a provocation? Like playing Golf? Am I missing something?"

Perhaps you are. There were several posts herein during the last week re India's intent to commence war with Pakistan. Then, India decided not to do so. Perhaps Pakistan's demonstration of its missile technology sent the Indians a proper message: the Paks have the ability to fight back.

Indians have always known about the capability Pakistani missiles. And about them being pretty straightforward copies (and thus well proven) of the North Korean No-Dong and the Chinese M11 missles.

Yes, the Indians were and are prepared to give an answer to the years old Pakistani proxy war. And arguing self-defence, they would be quite properly justified in doing so, considering that all these years, every single drop of blood (now in vast quantities) has been spilled on the Indian side, while the Pakistani army generals merrily sip Whiskey in their cosy contonments.

The Indians won't get any proper message because they figure that the only defence against a nuke+missile threat is a strong overwhelming retaliation ability. Which they think they have.

And they also figure that to not respond to the babies and wives of Indian soldiers being machine-gunned by Pakistani jehadis would be to dishonor the victims and to acknowledge that terrorism behind a missile shield cannot be confronted.

No, these missle tests are purely for Pakistani domestic reasons. Musharraf needs to show to his people that he ain't takin' orders from Indians or the West.

But he better do what he promises, or else he is surely going to have a war (limited or otherwise) on his hands, me thinks.

Fight back? Considering that the Pakies have started most conflicts recently and all the tensions through their use of proxies, who's the one fighting back?
