Since suicide is the ultimate sin (no chance for repentance or forgiveness), it should have been a deterrent to these "men of God." It wasn't, which shows, IMO, just how far they, in their decadence and cowardice, had fallen from grace. No pity for these "victims" here.

suicide is the ultimate sin For most people that is probably true. However there are special punishments in the Hereafter reserved for church officials who abuse their office. That's even worse.

But I disagree with your claim that suicide is the "ultimate sin" with "no chance for repentance or forgiveness."
Jesus said that the only sin for which men cannot be forgiven is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. According to Jesus ALL other sins can be forgiven.
The idea that people have to specifically repent of every sin they have ever committed in order to be forgiven is a fallacy addressed by Martin Luther in the Reformation.
