because after all, a celibate priest knows nothing but what is in books You are overgeneralizing. I've known army chaplains who have heard EVERYTHING! Besides, most therapists know little more than what they have read in "books." and never let the facts of the case get in the way of their pet theory.

In general, most therapist try to realign their patients with the status quo. In this instance the status quo is Church dogma. Albeit, it has come along way from burning one's own fingers just from thinking about sex as pleasurable -- proclaiming from on high that it is a sin to have pleasure from sex. Denial of nature is the sin. Much worse was the Church's inverting of sin and pleasure. That is, sexual pleasure is sin and sex void of pleasure is the ideal.

Today, a few priest including higher-ranks covering up seem to know that there is pleasure from sex. At least they got that part upright. Their methods are inverted. Consensual sex is pleasurable, not molestation.
