This time, he got the money he sought, though Marcoux says that what he really wanted was an apology.

What he wanted was money. Even the reporter who interviewed him in the ABC report couldn't believe that he didn't want the money.

Weakland's a criminal, to be sure, but this guy doesn't make a very believeable victim.

does the church make it a habit to pay half a million dollars out for spurious accusations...if they do, that speaks volumes in itself.

Much as I want the mess cleaned up, it sounds like this victim was blackmailing Weakland. That is ugly. It's almost as bad as being an offender.

No witnesses.

Now going to the media he can get even more money.

If the incident really happened, the more honorable thing to do would have been to go to the police (wouldn't have been effective in this case) and notify Weakland's superior. It's easy to say that in hindsight.

I hope that this is not what you would call an attack on Weakland. You can do better than that. Is Ms. Marcoux less believable than the impudent Omaha schoolmarm? You can see in Benedictine Rembert Weakland a modern day example of the need for the ninth century Cluniac Reform. I can't imagine what the Vatican is waiting for. Accept the resignation and defrock him. Then restore the Milwaukee Cathedral to be a fit place for Catholic worship as the Signatura ruled in ordering Archbishop Limpwrist to stop wreckovation. Start by selling the organ he put in the place of the tabernacle. Bulldoze if necessary. Also investigate criminally the allegations of financial irregularities with Milwaukee Archdiocesan cemetery funds. Hang him high! Brand him first with a branding iron H on his forehead for the heresies his name has always represented.
