Have you seen any polling data on the Senate race?
On my thread the other day, you asked about this. Thought I'd pass this to ya!

Cornyn needs to get at least 25% of hispanic vote, 65% of the white vote and 5% of the black vote to win in NOV...

He'll be lucky to get 40% of the white vote even if he sweeps the bkacks and hispanics.

Hmmmm ..let's see..
1) Kirk is against ANWR
2)He is against W judges
3)He says we need to reduce the tax cut because of war on terrorism...........he also said he might have voted for the TX W tax cut
4)Plus he wants INDPT independent investigation into the Bush administration's handling of terrorism warnings it received last summer before the Sept. 11 attacks.

ARE 44% of Texans in this poll on drugs??????

44 percent of white Texans are liberals? Yup that would track with how many mushheads there are in this country. At least Texas has not been overrun with them yet like in California but you never know.

This poll is an improvement over previous polls for Cornyn...Kirk is stuck at 43-43.7%%..in these 3 polls ...

In the Senate race, Attorney General John Cornyn is running neck-and-neck with Ron Kirk, the former Dallas mayor, 46.3 percent to 43.7 percent. Again, only 8.7 percent were undecided, and 1.4 percent declined to state a preference.

A Blum and Weprin poll, conducted 4/1-4/02 for the Dallas Morning News; surveyed 1,679 registered voters; margin of error +/- 2.5% (Hotline sources, 4/15). Tested: ex-Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk (D) and Attorney General John Cornyn (R).
General election matchup:
Kirk 43%
Cornyn 39
Undec. 16

BENNETT PETTS BLUMENTHAL (D)
A Bennett Petts Blumenthal (D) poll, conducted 3/24-27/02, surveyed 800 registered voters; margin of error +/- 3.5% (release, 4/15). Tested: ex-Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk (D) and Attorney General John Cornyn (R).
General election matchup:
Kirk 43%
Cornyn 41
Undec. 16

I don't see Kirk getting more than 45% of the vote in Texas, period. John Cornyn would have to run an awfully lackluster and incompetent campaign to be beaten by a Rat this fall.

Kirk needs to be defined...his numbers then will fall or stay at 43%...Rememeber Gore got 38-39% of the total vote in TX, so I think Kirk will at the end get atleast 43-45% of the total votes or if gets very very very lucky win the race

From the same poll:-

In a trial heat between Sharp, a Democrat, and Republican Dewhurst, Sharp took 46.4% of the statewide vote, compared to 42.4% for Dewhurst--a four-point lead in a poll with a three-point margin of error. 10% were undecided, and 1.1% refused.//

This race is a tossup...I think Sharp might win the LT.GOV race

Remember Gore got 38-39% of the total vote in TX

That was due to crossover votes for a popular governor. With three polls now showing this race a dead heat, I don't think we can expect the crossovers again.

While losing this race would be a political embarassment for the President, I do not think he would be considered a joke because of it. But it would indeed put in jeopardy his hopes of the GOP regaining the Senate. I hope Phil Gramm knows what he's doing.

Thanks for the flag and posting. I hadn't seen any recent polls but had been hearing the data was showing a close race at this time. I think the numbers are influeced somewhat by the recent Democrat primary and will change some by the time Nov. gets here. I don't think the change will favor Kirk. I think that President Bush, possibly VP Cheney, Senators Gramm and Hutchison, and others will spend some time here campaigning for Cronyn and that will put him over the top.

I don't think Cornyn has spent a dime yet. I'm not too worried at this stage.

You are probably correct about the money spent or at least he hasn't spent much. Cronyn had an easy time of it in this primary contest winning by some 77% so he didn't need to spend much and therefore his name recognition isn't up there with Kirk's due to his hotly contest race and runoff.... I'll be more concerned in Oct. if his showing hasn't improved....

Expect major vote fraud efforts in certain precincts next November. We need volunteers for Election Judge positions and to serve as Poll Watchers. Freepers in the Houston/Galveston area can contact me to get on the list. Get involved or wake with Ron Kirk as your next senator the day after the election!

If Kirk wins, that is a BIG IF...then it means W's agenda/Judges ..etc are DOA till 2004................

Also, it would be more than Political embarassment, it would be rejection of what GOP stands for....and the would be a 100% rejection of W 's Presidency....by Texans....that's how I see it.......

If Kirk wins, it means the Texas said no to :

1) W tax cut or agree to scale back of W tax cut
2) No to ANWR.
3) No to Conservative Judges.
4) Yes to INDPT body to investigate W handling of pre-9-11 memo..etc.
5) Yes to Daschle.
6) No to Phil Gramm
7) No to conservative Ideas.
8 ) yes to Bubbu/Rats .
9) Yes to Abortion
and 10) Yes to some kind of gun control

I think this race will be close, but Cornyn has build in advantages, which will pull him over the top over Kirk...

Having served as an election officer and seen the, uh, intellectual caliber of American voters, I think you're giving them all way too much credit. :-)
