living on the heathen side of the river. Now now, I would never insinuate that Canadians were heathens.
So, is it alright with you if Detroit gets blown up then?
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
In the first days following 9/11, my husband (he's a port captain) had a bomb threat on one of their tankers. It was determined to be just some wacko environmentalist.

Sure. As long as they leave Joe Louis Arena alone.

They want to blow up Detroit?
Would anyone even notice?

Is it Green Drake time already?Must be getting pretty close.
I posted an article a couple weeks ago about the return of the 17-year cicada to Pittsburgh this year.
But for some reason, it has vanished. Musta been squashed like a bug.

You have to wonder just what it is about certain threats that mandate such drastic responses. I doubt it's just some joker calling from a pay phone, fresh out of Bellevue. It could be a prankster who provides some 'credibility-establishing' information, like geographical descriptions of the river, or towns near it. Either that, or they get more than one threat about the same thing in a short period of time.
Whatever the case, I can't shake the feeling that something's going to happen soon. It may not be a 'big deal' like 9/11, but maybe hostage taking, or another embassy bombing. These warnings may be just to ratchet up our fear, so that it can be pushed over the edge when they strike next.
But then again, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. None of us do. We're not terrorists, so it's almost impossible to think in that sinister way they do. (At least I hope none of us are).

I saw that. That's the bad part about replying as you read through a posting rather than browse through first & then post. I used to live halfway between Ann Arbor & Detroit & worked in Dearborn. 11 months & I was out of there. Beruit of the western world.

Yeah, no sense making a whole lotta noise about it until then.

it would double as urban reconstruction.

I guess the surprise is out. Reminds me of a few months ago here in my office. Our administrative person sent out an email to everyone in the office announcing a surprise birthday party for our Department Head. I happened to notice that she included him on the distribution list. Oops!
We were talking about one for a friend of mine (on AOL) once and I cloned her screen name and "accidentally" added "her" to the discussion. >:)

Must be getting pretty close. I thought you meant they were flying already. I remember the thread from last year when they had covered some city (I forget which one). This weekend is usually about peak in the southern Catskills, Michigan being further north, I figured it would be a week or so later.

I remember the thread from last year when they had covered some city (I forget which one). That was Pittsbugh as well -- really an amazing indicator to how clean the rivers have become.
From that thread, I recall Hillary's Lovely Legs commenting about the mess mayflies made near Lake St. Clair.
I'm living near Las Vegas now.
I don't believe we get mayflies around here,
So I gotta make an edukated guess about conditions "back home".

Around here the roads were crawling with cops yesterday. Either the state legislature just told the local PDs they are SOL for state funds in the next budget, or they are looking for something. There was a similar pattern of activity after 9/11.

it would double as urban reconstruction. It is ironic. When Henry Ford was testing his Model T, he drove it around the open fields of Dearborn. Now Dearborn is urbanized, and Detroit is full of open fields.

HLL is a bot north of there. I'm on the good side of Michigan (hehe).
I find it interesting that Candian officials got the warning...
