He or someone for him or some pervert intercepted her in the park. She got killed, body dumped in a secluded area, down a stream bed or something.

The "mystery" enhanced by "cops" and "professional searchers" who did not comb the park, or even limit their searches to likely areas a body would be dumped. Instead, searches limited to unlikely, less dirty and troublesome areas. Helps create easier photoops too.

I hope the DC police kept records of who searched that area. What if someone actually did find it last summer, but called Gary and agreed to keep quiet for a small sum?

Just thinking....

Sadly, I do think it is her, especially since the local newsman they (Fox) had on the scene has gone to so many possibilities and none has had this many of those involved called in.

Dogwalker found her body is what I heard. And there's a walk-man on her.

Dan Rather must be really pissed off right now. Here he was harping on a non-existent 9-11 coverup supposedly by Bush and now the one case that he has tried to avoid like the plague emerges in the headlines again. It will be interesting to see how Rather reports this tonight. I wonder if he will dare to mention the "taboo" name of Gary Condit.

hmmm... I wish my two year old wasn't in the middle of Blue's Clues...

What's that, Blue? What have you found? Is it a clue? Looks like something that might belong to a Congressman!

If this is Chandra wouldn't it be great if they found condit's wallet under her remains?

Her parents were interviewed last week in DC. They sounded like they felt she was dead and Condit knows something he's not telling. They were angry.

Here's MSNBC's report:

Woman’s remains found in D.C. park

Officers who worked on Chandra Levy case called to scene

WASHINGTON, May 22 —— Police on Wednesday were examining the remains of an adult female found at Rock Creek Park. Though no identification had been made, investigators who worked on the case of missing intern Chandra Levy were called to the scene, sources told NBC News.

THE SOURCES, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the remains were found in a heavily wooded area of the park near Broad Branch Road. The remains consisted of a skull, bones and clothes and had been spread in the area, possibly by animals.

Levy, 24, vanished without a trace as she prepared to return to California after her position as an intern with the Bureau of Prisons.

The disappearance triggered an avalanche of publicity after she was romantically linked to former Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif.

Levy was last seen April 30 at a gym near her apartment. Police believe she spent the morning of May 1 surfing the Internet. Her parents received an e-mail from her that day that discussed airplane fares for her planned trip home to receive a graduate degree in public administration from the University of Southern California.

Several days elapsed before Levy’’s parents, Dr. Robert and Susan Levy of Modesto, Calif., called police and Condit, their congressman, to say she was missing. When police searched her apartment a few days later, they found her wallet, computer and luggage. Only her keys were missing.

Investigators interviewed friends, neighbors, co-workers, employees at the gym she frequented, but found no one who recalled seeing her after April 30.

They soon stopped by Condit’’s apartment for the first of four interviews with the congressman. Condit failed to tell investigators he was having an affair with Levy until his third interview, more than two months after Levy vanished, police sources have said. Condit, who lost his bid for re-election in March, repeatedly denied any involvement in her disappearance and police consistently said he was not considered a suspect.

The Levys have said they believe Condit has not revealed all he knows about the case, but they have stopped short of accusing him of complicity in the disappearance.

“If he’’s able to help, we wish he would,” Levy’’s father, Robert, said earlier this month and a candlelight vigil outside their daughter’s apartment to mark the anniversary of her disappearance. The Levys had urged police to treat their daughter’s disappearance as a crime, which might have allowed police to be more aggressive in questioning people in their search for clues. But the case was remains a missing person investigation because there is no evidence of a crime.

Fox speaker saying that the exact type of Walkman, for instance, would be known, that the initial personnel had good info to go by in order to say, "We may have your woman.."

Interesting irony you bring up about Rather. Almost like fate has stepped on him, isn't it?

But I thought they searched that area extensively last year, particularly around the mansion given that it was her last computer hit. Weird for it to turn up now (unless it was shallowly buried and a year's worth of erosion finally brought it forth).

Possible, or an animal brought up some bones. Doubt the "cops" searched for newly turned over soil at the time - too messy.

In other words, someone who went off-trail. Unlike the DC "cops" searching lawns and paths. It was a joke then, and people here observed such then.

I remember watching that search. It really was a joke. Just following the footpaths.

I hope the DC police kept records of who searched that area.

We already know that it wasn't the non-existent FBI "Cold Case Team" that Dan Rather erroneously reported on last year in his one and ONLY report of this case.

If they have the watch you will not here about it until after Gary or the killer confesses. This would be the smoking gun to get the killer and keep the evidence quiet until such time.

The more interesting thing at this point is not why didn't they find it before but why did they suddenly decide to search again, and find it so quickly? They were finished searching. Unless somebody walking through the park happened to stumble on it, they must have gotten a tip. Who the heck could they have gotten it from?
