Pair found guilty in plot to blow up propane tanks (major nutcase alert)

Two El Dorado County men were found guilty on Tuesday of plotting to blow up two huge propane storage tanks in Elk Grove.

The first trial ended in November after the jury deadlocked 11-1 to convict Kevin Patterson and Charles Kiles.

These guys have got to be two of the biggest dumbsh*ts alive. This all happened a few years back and the incident has caused no end of repercussions in the area surrounding Suburban Propane, not to mention the intense security that now surrounds the plant.

I believe there are lawsuits pending against a nearby developer after the Army Corps of Engineers went and drew a hypothetical "blast zone" on maps. (I think my home wound up in the outermost circle that would have resulted in just broken windows).

This even held up development of a badly needed shopping mall nearby as the endless debate over the Suburban Propane fear factor continued.

I hope they lock these jerks up for a long time.

Samuel acknowledged his client was found with some gasoline, ammonium nitrate and an ignition device. "You probably have the same items at home," he told the jury.

Not enough info. But I do indeed have gasoline, fertilizer and a match. Do you think I'll be locked up?

The fear mongering labeling continues. I suppose if you're right up close the explosion of a propane tank is as bad as a nuke. Next they'll arrest kids for using their fingers as pretend guns (no wait we've gone past that insanity checkpoint already).

Well, a study at Lawrence Livermore concluded the fireball would have a diameter of six or seven miles across in the worst case.

That's a WMD in my book. Especially considering it'd probably kill a large proportion of all the residents in Elk Grove, a Sacramento suburb that now numbers about 100,000 people. After 9/11, I'd hope they would put an anti-aircraft battery in down there.

The government's theory was that Patterson and Kiles, members of the San Joaquin County Militia, sought to goad federal authorities into declaring martial law, thus galvanizing militia groups into an armed response that they hoped would spread across the country.
