Jibril hints Jordan helped Israel to assassinate son; three people arrested in Beirut

Palestinian leader, Ahmad Jibril said Jordanian intelligence may have helped its Israeli counterpart assassinate his son in Beirut, charging that the two collaborate closely.

"We say it is the Israelis who carried out" the assassination of Jihad Jibril, who was killed when his booby-trapped car exploded in west Beirut, Jibril told Al-Jazeera satellite channel from Damascus. "But there are local collaborators who facilitated the enemy's task," said Jibril, who heads the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC).

"The Israeli enemy's intelligence relies on US intelligence and Jordanian intelligence," and the three closely coordinate their activities, forming an "evil trio which managed to harm us," Jibril added.

He said the PFLP-GC had detained Jordanian intelligence agents in Lebanon, accusing Jordan's intelligence services of "having become a tool in the hands of (Israel's) Mossad and US intelligence."

Later, Al-Jazeera reported that a senior PFLP-GC commander had been arrested in Beirut on suspicion of being involved in the killing. Security sources said three unidentified people were detained and being questioned.

While investigations are ongoing to determine if the bomb was detonated by remote control, security sources said the device was the same type used to assassinate Prime Minister Rashid Karami in 1987 an attack carried out by the Lebanese Forces militia, the Lebanese Daily Star reported.

Security sources in Lebanon said the victim had received several previous death threats and that other attempts on the lives of PFLP-GC officials had occurred in recent weeks.

According to the PFLP-GC, Jihad Jibril held the rank of major in the organization after attending the Libyan military academy from 1981-1983 and receiving parachute training.

In 1997, he was badly wounded in an explosion during an exercise in the Bekaa, and in 2000 he escaped an assassination attempt when his car came under fire near a PFLP-GC base south of Beirut.

Well of course they collaborate closely. The Palestinians pose as big a threat to Jordan as they do to the Israelis. Jordan's interests are well-served by disposing of terrorists.

I feel bad for the innocent car.

Don't -- it was French.

On second thought, I do feel somewhat bad that they didn't offer the car a chance to surrender first. Bad form....

Reminds me of a joke (black humor & in poor taste--admitting I laughed at the time, sue me I'm human ) I heard during the OJ trial:

OJ's son : Dad, can I borrow the car?

OJ : Go ax' yo' mamma.

The Jordinian Dynasty, known as the Hashimite Dynasty, line of descent comes directly from Mohammed. Throughout much of the last millenium they were the keepers of the so-called "Holy Places." Also, most of the the northen oil fields of SA, territory that BTW is controled by the dreaded Wahhabis tribal group, was under Hashemite controil as well. Why not repartition Suadi Arabia and Southern Iraq and give the meaningful parts back to the Jordinians? I believe that much of the Saudi postering of late is really about elbowing the Jordinians away from the table. The Saudi Monarchy must be aware of the danger that the Hashemites pose.

Well sure, why not. And don't leave out the West Bank.

Daniel 8:9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.
