They should look into the way certain foods are prepared at deli's. Rotisserie chicken with SUGAR added, for instance. Why put sugar in everything. You have to sort through the various varueties of bacon to find the ONE without SUGAR.
Same thing with salt. You have to have read the labels of the frozen veggies to find the one that doesn't add salt. Let people season their food as they desire. Especially with the rise of obesity, high blood pressure ect. Who benefits by adding these non essentials to most foods? Pharmecutical companies? nah!

FReepers deliver again! Woo hoo! Thanks for coming through. This picture does indeed say a thousand words, doesn't it?!

Doesn't get much more absurd than this.
BMI is nothing but the quotient of your weight and the square of your height. By this newly proposed standard, the famous pint-sized weightlifter, Franco Columbu, who didn't have an ounce of fat on him, would be considered "obese." Muscle tissue is far more dense than fatty tissue. Bad science from the government -- surprise, surprise.

Someone needs to inquire as to whether the Senator has had his regular mammogram. With breasts like those, he is clearly at risk.

An "obesity epidemic?" Didn't know it was communicable. Teddy 'n' Jerr' ought to take some direct action by stapling their pieholes shut. That would benefit their tummies...and our ears.

. Since the government has gotten in the health care funding business with Medicaid and Medicare They should severely cut the food stamp program, it could be limited to rice and beans ---it's absurd people on food stamps are allowed to fill their carts full of the kinds of foods they tend to buy ----chips, cokes, candy, cookies etc.

First - Diabetes: It's inherited. Fat and skinny people get it, usually because someone in their family had or has it. Second - Overweight: My sister's mother-in-law weighed in at 230 lbs., 5' most of her adult life. She died at age 89. We know two people who went, in the past couple of years, on diets to lose weight. The man weighed in, prior to his diet, about 300 pounds. He did well and started to look good. Didn't see him for about three years and when I did he had gained back all the pounds he lost plus about 50 more. He could hardly walk.
The second person, a lady, was always overweight by about 70 lbs. She went on a diet and lost until she looked slim and lovely. Next time I see her I walked right past her and if she didn't grab my and and if her husband, whom I recognized, was not present, I wouldn't have recogized her at all. She had gained back about 120 pounds.
I was attended Weight Watchers to lose about 15 pounds. I succeeded. But I will always remember the man who ran the class telling us about some program they had for folks who lost 100 lbs. or more and how so many of them went out of control and gained all their weight back, plus more. It has since made me think that some folks will always carry extra pounds. What's puzzling is that when fat folks do diet and are successful in losing extra pounds, why do so very many of them gain the weight back, plus more pounds. I think this should be studied very closely.

What's puzzling is that when fat folks do diet and are successful in losing extra pounds, why do so very many of them gain the weight back, plus more pounds. I think this should be studied very closely. There is really no trick to it. You make a total lifestyle change. Sure, some of it is genetic but mostly it comes down to making that choice to change your whole way of life.
I didn't go on my diet to lose weight; I went on a sugar free diet because I found out that refined sugar was causing me to have migraine headaches. Because of the sugar free thing I had to clean out my kitchen and start cooking from scratch. I started to lose weight and didn't even notice until someone commented on it and I got on the scale. After that I decided to see if I could do it deliberately. I lower my carb intake and started eating more fish and chicken with lots of green veggies. I then added in an exercise program (Tai Chi). I feel great. But it was a lifestyle change.
I can't go back to my old way of eating or I would no doubt put the weight right back on and I think that is the key for those who are over weight. You have to stick with it for the rest of your life. You never can go off the diet.
For me it is easier maybe because the consequences of my breaking the diet is immediate and quite painful as I found out 3 hours after having a piece of cake.
