I guess that's okay until you or someone you care about is one of those wrong people.

I rather take my chances of being wrongfully convicted in a fair trail, then permitting perps to run free because there is a 1 in 1000 chance they might be innocent.

Who said anything about letting people run free? Lifetime sentences would prevent wrongful executions and perps running free.
