Lucas is, finally, getting around to making cinematic versions of action sequences that were written, in licensed 'Star Wars' novels, as much as two decades ago. That doesn't make it plagiarism on his part. He owns the rights to the material and can use it, anytime. We can all wish he would use it faster, but it doesn't make it any less his.
There's enough 'Star Wars' material in existence to make more than 100 films. That others want to steal some of those ideas and do so isn't that surprising. What's surprising is that Lucas is then accused of stealing the ideas back.

I remember one of my favorite ones was Splinter of the Mind's Eye (I can't believe I can remember that title!). Although, some reason I seem to remember some romantic tension b/w Luke & Leia.

Maybe so. I haven't ever had time to read all the Star Wars Universe stuff. I quit reading about half-way through the Jedi Academy stuff. One thing about it, he's still the master of special effects. I thought the crowd was going to go berserk during the Yoda scene. I just wish it'd been longer.

Then when he dips from his own well and people cry "Plagarism! Rip-off!"
The sad thing is that with the last two films, Lucas pushed the bounds of movie-making by creating and rendering his backgrounds and sets digitally. It's not new to have digital effects, but his company, ILM, keeps pioneering the effects that are used and broadening the tasks for which such effects are used. No one notices this.
Another sad thing is that NO ONE even remarks on the music that John Williams has created for this series anymore. Apart from the effects, it is one of the facets of these films that is consistent in its excellence. His music is the mortar that holds these movies together and hardly anyone cares.
