I think punishment and judgement are best left to the special instruments of society designed for that specific purpose: the courts and law enforcement. I also think that the church, as exemplified by Christ's life and words, should foster the best of the human spirit through love, acdeptance and support. Admittedly, there are few, on a worldwide basis, denominations that do this. But, on a local level, there are many churches that provide virtually non-contingent love and support--There are some here in my community, including the Catholic churches and some protestant ones. It seems to depend upon the congregation and the pastor.
