bttt. And, you're right - (1) McBride is missing that minor little thing called a "platform" and (2) many FL certified teachers DO support Gov. Bush. (I am another one.) :)

I thank you for your agreement.

Jeb is the Governor of the state I live in, but even more important to me, it is the state my daughter is growing up in.Jeb Bush has brought some semblance of rational oversight to public education in Florida. He deserves credit for his hard work in this venue, and in other aspects of his leadership. He has my vote for another term.

Here comes the but...

Jeb is a politician, and as such, deserves carefull scrutiny. As in the real world, one oh Sh!t, wipes out 10 attaboys. I am leary of his intentions re uncontrolled immigration. We all have our hot buttons.;^)

Thanks for your comments. I live in another state with a pro-educational accountability Governor, Bill Owens, and I have appreciated Jeb Bush's leadership on educational issues, as well as his compassionate heart. I can understand why Jeb would have a high level of compassion for Hispanic immigrants, but I am curious. Do you believe that he is truly in favor of uncontrolled immigration? If so, what has he done that makes you believe this? (I ask sincerely.)

sarasmom, I always appreciate your posts because I find you have a lot of insight, and I too am curious as to the question asked by coloradomom in her post #85. The reason I am curious is because I too live in FL, and I honestly don't think Gov Bush has done anything to evidence a slant toward favoring illegal immigration. In fact, he has taken some heat from Hispanic groups over the new state laws about drivers licenses, as some Hispanics were very distressed over these new statewide procedures.

OOP, you're correct, the Brazilians speak Portuguese! (apparently most of them speak Spanish as well as i've heard many speaking Spanish with my neighbors!). The amusing thing about my neighbors is that they're trying to teach 'la gringa' Spanish but usually end up arguing about the precise meanings of idiomatic things and 'colorful local sayings'. Very amusing for 'la gringa!'

Thanks Summer, I read it yeserday and really enjoy good news about the Bush family. However, if the school structure is being manipulated nationally as Bev claims in her book, the "enemy" is building ways to keep us from extricating ourselves. And it's of no surprise that they are also aiming now on home schoolers and private schools. Guess which former First "Lady"'s name came up in several documents?

Libertina, thanks for your nice post here. I am so happy you took the time to read this article. As for which first lady you are talking about, oh, I would guess you mean: Hillary. (Am I right?) As for me, I am FOR homeschooling and private schools and charter and whatever educational environment enables the child to learn and the parents are happy. I know De, leaders tend to be much more narrow in their educational platform -- and, that stone-age mentality they maintain about education is a huge turn-off to me, speaking as a teacher. Thanks for your post. :)

Thanks Summer. If you read Bev's book, I'd like to get your feedback on what she talks about - including the Goals 2000 / Workforce 2000. Do you use these in your school? And which tests are your students taking? Also, you will most likely be dumbfounded at the roots of this country's education history. Anyway, let me know when you've read it and let me know your opinion.
