"Many Russian gangsters came to New York as Jewish refugees," explains an Israeli police source. About a third, sources say, were actually Jews. Many others - among them Armenians, ethnic Russians, Tatars and Kazakhs - created Jewish covers to get out of the U.S.S.R. "They'd `convert' the day before the flight."… BTW, they’re a major problem for Israel, who believe it or not is relatively unequipped to deal with organized crime, along with America and the rest of the world.
