There is that rather famous statement in one of the primary Christian documents about which volumes have been written in commentary. It's worth contemplating.

"gnosesthe ten aletheian, kai he aletheia eleutherosei humas."

("You shall know the truth, and the Truth shall set you free.") - John 8:32

Of course, the direction of reflection depends on what the reader understands by "truth" and by being set "free." Christians (Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox) have debated such things continuously.

This is how one observer sees it: Here.

I much prefer the word honesty over truth. Truth changes from context to context and from one person's interpretation to the next. In other words, there's a lot of gray area.

Honesty, on the other hand has no gray area. Something (namely a person's act(s)) is either honest or not. Plus, honesty encompasses the truth, all relevant facts and contexts.

Fully integrated honesty sets me free. I still have mysticisms but when I identify a piece of mysticism fully integrated honesty easily eliminates it.
