QUETTA: Congo virus, clinically known as hemorrhagic fever, broke out in various parts of Balochistan, including Dukki, Punjpai and Quetta, as the number of Congo victims increased to seven at Fatima Jinnah Hospital in Quetta.
A fresh case of Congo victim was reported in the hospital on Sunday when thirty years old Sanzar Khan was admitted to the hospital for medical treatment. The victim belongs to Quetta and his condition is stated to be precarious, hospital sources said. The patients, who are suffering from the deadly disease, are being administered 1200 mg capsules of the anti-virus Ribavirin whereas doctors and other medical attendants take 600-800 mg of Ribavirin as a precaution against the disease. Most of the patients belong to Dukki, Punjpai, Loralai and Quetta.
Officials of the health department have isolated patients suffering from the Congo virus in Quetta. "We are providing them all possible medical treatment," said hospital sources. The latest medical research says the infection is usually transmitted to man by a tick bite. However, it can also be transmitted from human to human via close contact. An increasing number of cases have also been witnessed in Loralai and Qillah Saifullah.
