In my past encounters, the only serious trouble was with union goons, who were self-appointed(or not) marshalls for the commies.
The Liberal Party in Canada had mob-connected Teamsters serve as 'ushers' at their major rallies, just in case there were any dissenters.
You can't afford to lose the battle for the streets; you can't allow the leftists to intimidate you or the game's over.
Guns are not required, just resolve. ;^)
First, expect trouble, but don't go looking for it. Second, be prepared, have a plan of what you're going to do and third train. Don't be taken by surprise.
