According to some posters to this forum who will remain nameless, the reason there is a shortage of priests is that the Pope, over whose passing they are impatiently salivating, won't allow married men to be ordained. Those of us too reactionary to know better think it is the liberal, secular nature of too many seminaries, who, in the "Spirit of Vatican II" weed out the narrow-minded, non-inclusive, pietist, rubricists who insist on remaining obedient to Rome. But what do we know.

There has always been a shortage of priests, it just happens to be more acute now than in the past.
Allowing married priests may or may not help relieve the current shortage.
One thing it would do, however, is raise the number of mature heterosexuals in the priesthood.
