Reminds me of the time a grass fire at Ft. Riley closed access from the grenade range to the hardball (range road). And yours truly was trying to leave the range driving a jeep with a trailer full of live grenades! I put a soldier in the back with a fire extinguisher, put the pedal to the metal, and prayed.
After dropping the trailer at the hardball, we went back and ferried out troops...managed to get 'em all out in three trips...and got chewed out by the CO for taking a chance on losing the jeep. To Hades with him, the troops were more important than a dumb ol' jeep!
