There seems to be a lot of people who forget that, up until late December of 1865, Slavery was LEGAL !
How can one sue someone for something that WAS NOT A CRIME?
It's such a simple solution....that I wonder why no one has voiced it in a column somewhere.
Let's hope there's a judge out there who can recognise this simple fact and throw these putzes out on their ears.

Exactly! The constitution expressly forbids passing an Ex Post Facto law. You can't go to jail or sue someone for doing something that was legal at the time (or at least in theory) Why don't we hear this arguement more often? (The last question was rhetorical. I think the answer is pretty obvious to anyone reading this thread.)
