I would remind you that the entire nations of Germany and Japan suffered for the actions of their leaders.

The penalty for these countries was not population transfer to another place to make room for settlers from the victors. They were defeated, and borders were redrawn, but anyone within those borders became citizens of the respective countries. Palestinians have remained in indeterminate citizenship status since 1967. The reason is that Israel wanted the land but not the people on it. They could not expel them en masse for political reasons; thus they are taking it over one house at a time. Which the US funds and reaps the consequences thereof, Sept 11 inclusive.

Why, then, were the Palestinians not granted their own country by the Egyptians or the Jordanians prior to 1967? Or granted citizenship in Egypt or, as it was then, Trans-Jordan?

And why should Israel grant citizenship to people who want nothing less than its destruction and the extermination of its inhabitants?

Why, indeed?

They used to be citizens of those countries.

And why should Israel grant citizenship to people who want nothing less than its destruction and the extermination of its inhabitants?

Because it would give them a third option besides subjugation and war.

Sorry to intrude, but granting citizenship to someone who wants to exterminate you does not, to me, seem to be a 'third option.'

Rather, it would seem to be giving your enemy a secure base from which to attack. It would be logical to expect war under such circumstances.

Granting them citizenship would eliminate the main reason that the Palestinians fight--namely that they have no legal standing, and are at the mercy of the settler movement and the IDF forces that support it. I do not believe the Israeli propaganda that the Arabs are born and educated to murder Jews and the only option is to exterminate them before they do the same to us. This dehumanizing of the other side is in the worst tradition of politics.

The Palestinians feel (and say) that they are driven to do what they do by the injustice of their situation. Even Sharon acknowledges that they have a raw deal when he is being candid. There are three ways out: a state, a democratic (not "democracy only for Jews") Israel that encompasses West Bank/Gaza, or population transfer.

I'm not saying that there are not Islamic Jihad crazies that would like to see a bloodbath, but that their current support would evaporate if the Palestinians got some resolution on their citizenship status.

Some option...

The Neo-Axis-NATO war-crime-family slimed together by the joint effort of the treasonous, predatory, lying, thieving, mass-murdering, serial-raping ArKKKansas' Aberration and his fellow-fascist; once "great" Britain's Turd-Way Tony Blair; terrorized, killed, maimed, brutalized and forced from their homes at least one million more innocents than were ever effected by Milocovec's defensive wrath!
