Senate EPW Committee Votes to Take-Over Local Town Zoning

According to the American Land Rights Association (landrights.org), The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee met IN SECRET on April 25 and voted to approve S. 975, the "Community Character Act". Because of growing public opposition to S. 975, the committee leadership decided to HIDE from the public and meet in a closed session.

This is the SAME committee that hid from the public last December and approved S. 990, the "Son of CARA" land acquisition bill. When the public doesn't like what they are doing, the EPW Committee shuts out the public and votes in secret. However, this time around, information has leaked out about how it happened: The general public and lobbyists start lining up outside the door of Room 406 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building. This is where the EPW Committee gave public notice several days ago that the "markup" -- the final debate and committee vote -- on S. 975 would be held, at 9:30am that morning.

A committee staff person announced to the people waiting in line that the committee "markup," due to start at 9:30, had been moved. He was asked WHERE and said, "I don't have room number." He was asked WHEN and said, "I don't know, sometime after 10 o'clock." He was asked WHY and said, "The Senators are busy." He finally admitted that the meeting was being moved to a small office in a part of the Capitol Building that was CLOSED to the general public. But he still insisted that it was a public meeting, it was just being held in a room that was closed to the public. So the EPW Committee, at about 10:30am, met IN SECRET and voted to approve S. 975, the Community Character Act. The vote was twelve in favor to seven against; two RINOs (Republicans In Name Only), Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Lincoln Chafee (R-RI), joined turncoat Jim Jeffords (I-VT) and 9 Democrats to pass it out of committee. S. 975 is now ready to go to the Senate floor, to be voted on by the entire Senate.

The Bush administration has gone on record as opposing S. 975 and House companion bill H.R. 1433, but all opponents of Big Government need to contact their Senators and Representatives and let them know that their constituents -- that's US -- oppose this attempt to have the Federal government take over local zoning.

TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Crime/Corruption; Culture/Society; Government
KEYWORDS:
This bill mandates US Government control of local zoning boards to 'ensure fairness' and to 'enhance the multicultural balance of local towns.' The hook is that the Washington will pay 90% of the cost of updating all local zoning laws, thereby making all local zoning boards subservient to Washington, esp. Liberals.

If signed into law, this would end local control of town government -- something the Liberals have been working toward for 70 years.

Outright Socialism. This denies "the right to property", supposedly protected by the Constitution the politicians vowed to uphold.
Arrest these people for treason.

With this new bill, the politicians can "share" the wealth others have worked so hard to earn with those who sloth and leech.
Someday the ants will rebell, and the grasshoppers will starve, along with their leaders. There will be no one left to pay the bills.
Why work hard to succeed when it's taken away anyway?

We need to colonize a new land, where we can escape the high taxation and opression of the kings.

Private property is perhaps the key to liberty. The Bible supports private property in one its basic laws...Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors goods.

But, after all, the liberal commies say the Bible and the Constitution are both old, outdated documents. They go hand in hand, therefore are irrelivant- separation of Church and state, you know.
