Re #16

Your point about the impact on economy is well-taken. What makes our age different from previous ages in history is that the role of perceiption in our economic system. The sense of security, trust, and confidence are the foundation of many financial systems. Unfortunately, these can be easily shaken by drastic events like big war. Trillions dollars will evaporate not because of any real physical damage but shaken confidence. I think this is another important factor in Bush's war planning in addition to geopolitcs and military. Thing are more complicated than it used to. This glass tower of financial system should be protected from shock wave from the distance while US is waging a war. No easy task to accomplish.

especially since we waste million dollar weapons blowing up camels and toyota pickups in Ashkanastan.

We don't need to use smart bombs to take out the Toyotas. Just send my ex wife there. She destroys every car she gets behind the wheel of. She's like an automotive Nosferatu...she gets behind the wheel and the life just gets sucked out of the car, regardless of make and model.

You're not kidding. I grew up during the 80's, when the only big fear I had as a kid was being nuked by the Soviets at night. Now my kid has a whole lot more to worry about. The world was a much simpler place. I mean, Reagan was in the White House and Clint Eastwood had his own police force!(while mayor of Carmel) ICBM's pointed at us or not, we still felt safe.

If you wait until a problem gets to your borders, the damage will be much more severe ...

We have and it is!

I have a very bad feeling that right about the time that the bulk of our forces be concentrated on Iraq, some other country will try to open a window of opportunity. What if North Korea decided that it would be the right time to invade South Korea? Or what if China decides to "re-integrate" Taiwan? Hell, what if the both make their move at the same time?

They might find a few Hiroshima-results sitting in places like Beijing, Pyongyang and other cities.

I think Bill Clinton has rendered this nation incapable of successfully dealing with such a calamity.

D@mn! Just heard a guy talk about Iraq. Probably on Art Bell. From an historical perspective, Saddam thinks
he's the reincarnation of, or the successor to Nebuchadnezzar II (605-562 BC). Enslaved the Jews, made Babylon
in to a household word, etc...

You must remember that there are folks on FR who think that any support of this President means you worship him as a god. In fact, I believe they refer to all who even show a hint of support for this president as "bush-bots." The implication, of course, is that only THEY are able to think for themselves and everyone is apparently brainwashed.

It's not "sarcasm" - it's hyperbole, exaggeration, and ad homimem attack.

Launch a preemptive strike on the Goodyear Blimp? Or maybe it is believed still to be the capitol of the tire industry.

And those who don't find their candidate to fit with 100% of their views on 100% of the issues are in the main.

You're right about that. We have not seen anything yet.
