Reagan Wanted Marijuana Legalized
email ^

Posted on 05/06/2002 6:21:05 PM PDT by Texaggie79

In newly released audiotapes of Ronald Reagan's broadcast commentaries, Reagan made clear his view that individuals should be allowed to use marijuana if they wanted to.

The Reagan broadcasts come from the days before Reagan became president and were believed to be lost.

But in the new audio set "Reagan In His Own Voice" the unedited version of Reagan's most controversial broadcasts are now available.

In one broadcast, Reagan declared it was an individual's choice if they chose to smoke marijuana, as long as they were aware of the health risks.

Reagan had a strong Libertarian streak, though he also held strong views about prayer in school, abortion, sex-ed in schools and other social concerns.

How old were you when Reagan was in office?

Look at my profile do the math :-) Besides what is your point? Neither one of us was alive when the Foudning Father's were. Can we not talk about them because we were not born then?

I don't think there is any doubt that he was against legalizing pot by the time he was President.

I don't think it was Ronnie; it was his idiot wife.

Reagan wanted to keep the kids off the stuff. But for you and me it's cool.
Way to go Ronny.

I would say it differently: I don't think there is any doubt that his formal position was against legalizing pot immediately prior to and during the time he was President.

Whether he was actually against it, who knows.

Thank god the "Joe Friday" mentality is dying out with its adherents...

I always liked Joe....
Back in his heyday, our communities were safe and you didn't have to worry much about addicts, pedophiles or other lowlife scum molesting children or mugging the elderly. I guess it's time that the local Neighborhood Watch exercise their 2nd Amendment rights and arm themselves as a militia to drive out the riffraff.

Well Central you forgot DouglasKC, he is always good for an anti drug comment.
But even I have noticed that there are fewer and fewer
WOD'ers, are they finally seeing the light, or are they chicken
I also saw that thread, and wondered where they were,
some over zealous Drug Warrior kills a man over tiny amount of pot,
That is a good use of our tax money.

Well WODer's what do you think, was Ronny right on this one.
and by the way his statement was 1979 right before he was elected Pres.

We're supposed to believe that Joe Friday and his make-believe drug paranoia were responsible for that?

Sure, why not?

Ya'll suffer from quite a few drug-induced delusions.
Why not add that one to the list?

Should we believe that Harry Anslinger and FDR were good, honest, conservatives while we're at it?

Whatever he said, and there's no proof of any kind that he supported the legalization of marijuana, the Gipper served eight years as president fighting illegal drugs, including marijuana. Turning that effort -- and reason -- on its head, druggies trumpet loudly that if he was so much against it, he must have been for it. Makes about as much sense as their other arguments.

I have no problems with riffraff being forcibly removed from the community.
They're detrimental to property values and are a bad influence on the children.

We’re in agreement Willie!

Lock up all union members!

You can believe that you can hitch a ride to the good life on the comet Hale-Bopp for all I care.

Just keep your stinkin' dope outta my neighborhood and away from the kids.

“You’re high on pot right now, aren’t you? Junk. The devil’s weed. Look that way to you, Frank?”
“Appears that way, Joe.”
“This guy, this tacticalogic, he thinks its fine to smoke this marijuana.”
“Right as rain, according to him.”
“Next thing you know, he’s hopped up hallucinating running naked through the neighborhood terrorizing the children creating a traffic nuisance diving off a cliff…”
“Lots of innocent children at the bottom of those cliffs Joe.”
“But this guy’s just gotta have his hit his junk his dope. He doesn’t care about the kids at the bottom of that cliff…”
“Couldn’t care less, Joe.”
"It makes me sick."
