WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush and top members of his administration mingled and shared laughs Saturday with Washington reporters, insiders and some outsiders -- including famed British rocker Ozzy Osbourne -- at this year's White House Correspondents dinner.

Comedian Drew Carey was on hand to provide the entertainment during the more than three-hour event, doing stand-up comedy for the president and more than 1,800 guests, from top White House adviser Karl Rove to hard rocker turned reality show star Ozzy Osbourne.

Don't worry, they'll be wheeling him into the TV room soon to watch Lawrence Welk reruns on PBS at 6 pm and then he'll get his meds and be in bed by 7.

What's an ork?

Not sure in this context, but back in my sysadmin days, I'd refer to the other admins as 'cow-orkers'.

BTW, cow-orking is unlawful in most parts of Georgia.

I really didn't realize how uptight some of the Freepers are until today. lighten up! VP himself had a hearty laugh over the joke and you can tell he wasn't just simply being polite.

Oh my God.I've heard bad stories about Lawrence Welk. There's the one where he got so snockered on champagne and bit the head off a chocolate bunny on national TV peppered his language with bad words like golly, gee whiz, darn it and dove off the stage landing in a band members tuba getting stuck. Then there was the time he poured lighter fluid on his accordian and lit it on fire.Yeah,he was one whacked out dude.

I'm sure Pat would have handled it differently, right? Or would he have just stayed home?

As you well know, PJB has one heckuva sense of humor. I'm sure he would've made the most of the situation, totally unscripted, unrehearsed and off-the-cuff!!!

You all need to ligthen up. I'm constantly amazed at the things you all complain about Bush doing. It's like you HAVE to find something every single day.

I agree. Bushbots are WAAAAAY too thin-skinned and can't take a little ribbing!
I've always said that Dubya was very affable.
He'd make a great neighbor: fun at backyard Bar-B-Ques and a good little league coach for the kids. I just think his political policies and priorities for our nation are not what's needed.

Yeah some people here are twisted a little tight. I vote pretty much stright repub (unless the repub is more liberal than the dem) and never miss a moment to make my pro-2nd amendment stance known. But I grew up listening to OZZY and other such *demonic* rockers. I still attend OZFest every year. But I'm sure some people here would consider me part of the problem in today's R party.
And that photo of Cheny peeking in the door (looking like he was *enjoying* himself) was damn funny and im glad our admin can laugh about that stuff!

You're right about your not having a right to being Ozzie Ork's spokesman, you're wrong about me not having a moral obligation and right to judge this vulgar, profane creep. I suppose you are part of the 'thought police'?

Well, ya got me there old bean. I can't speak for Ozzy. I was stretching the truth a bit to make a point, but my point didn't set well with you apparently. Oh well.

However, I am the spokesman for Pat Boone, and he wanted me to tell you to return the albums and 8 track tapes of his that you own. He said he doesn't feel right about being linked in any way whatsoever to a judgmental ass such as yourself. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news old chap, but your crooning along with Pat days are over.

Oh, and by the way, Pat said he wants you to pay the shipping when sending his records back.

Seriously, read again what I quoted you saying above and tell me who is more akin to being a member of the thought police. I've no right, but you've got every right. Now, perhaps you can explain exactly how it is that you can say that, unless you are somehow better than I, or your thinking is somehow more worthy for consideration than mine is. Explain please.

I find it refreshing that the Pres and VP are shmoozing it up with someone who admits having taken LSD everday for 2 years, and was so into drugs and alchohol that his own band fired him.

Hey Check this out! Don't know how reliable this is but...

Ozzy Osbourne 'invited to White House'

Wildman rocker Ozzy Osbourne has been invited to dinner at the White House by US president George W Bush, according to reports.

It follows the hugely successful launch of a new reality TV show following the UK singer and his family.

The Osbournes has become music channel MTV's biggest ever hit in the US, with more than three million viewers and President Bush is said to be a huge fan.

Osbourne said he was stunned to be invited, according to the Express newspaper.

He said: "I thought I'd be on a wanted poster on the wall, not invited to his place to tea."

For the most part, the correspondents are a bunch of Commies anyway and in answer to one of your questions: I believe that in a time of war, there should be no partying until the war is over and our boys are home safely.

Really? FDR attended during WWII, Truman attended during Korea, LBJ attended during Vietnam, Reagan attended during the cold war when more of our military were in danger than right now, Clinton attended during Kosovo. Why, all of a sudden, should the President of the United States refuse to attend?

President Bush is the best and most competent CiC the military has had in years, they'd be glad to know that he finally took time to have a few laughs and honored tradition.

Uh oh, CWRWinger just decided that Dubya is without doubt the antichrist. Inviting Ozzy to dinner is the proof positive in his mind.

I am serious, I have nothing at all against Bush and Cheney hobnobbing with drug users and mass philanderers. I am not a social conservative in that sense.

"The year before Bill Clinton put together a farewell video, in which the former president pretended to be at loose ends in the final lame-duck months of his presidency. "

LOL! CNN can't help looking back to better years... in their opinion. I'm surprised they even mentioned President Bush.

Sunday morning [yesterday, NZ time] I heard one Prof. Fred Greenstein being interviewed on Radio New Zealand. The interview related to his book "The Presidential difference", in which he outlines the different styles, strong points and Archilles heels of America's recent Presidents - recent being from Nixon onward, as far as I could tell. Having said that, Roosevelt and Truman were mentioned too.

Has anyone read this book? I'm inclined to pick it up but it could be smart to ask first if anyone here has any opinions before I shell out some hard earned tax paid dollars?
