How far will it reach? Goodness knows with the Rats in charge of the State Legislature and the State Attorney General's Office, there'll be the tendency to shield Gray Davis from the worst effects of an Oracle fall out til after the November elections. After all the Rats learned from the Clinton saga that if you hang tough and stonewall and obstruct justice, you can get away with anything. The sheeple are too anethetized to care about what goes on inside the government anyway. You'll hear them with the help of their compliant media, to pin this on the vast right wing conspiracy. Moreover, they're going to trot out the line that if Davis knew anything it was only after the fact. This hokum from a governor whose micromanagement of state activities is no secret to Sacramento insiders and the public, but repeat a lie often enough and people will begin to believe it. Right now Davis just wants this to go away since it adds credence to Bill Simon's critique that Davis' experience hasn't been an asset to the state in his four years in office. The problem for Davis is his pile of headaches will only grow bigger. How good is Davis at crisis management? It certainly looks like a long hot summer on the griddle seat ahead for the incumbent governor.

"How good is Davis at crisis management?"

Probably pretty good. Davis will use the resources of the State as well as the Cal Democratic Council to protect himself. Aids will be expected to fall on their swords for Davis, as the AG, Lockyear, will be certain to obstruct any useful investigation at the state level.

I think Davis is worried, but not about being caught doing something stupid. I think he is more concerned about just how stupid are California voters to give him a walk on any corruption, just as long as CA has abortion.
