There was no excuse either time but less of no excuse in 1939-40. Friend's father was sent to Siberia when the Soviets first invaded Poland; her mother, a teacher, hid out as a peasant. He was released to fight the Nazis, she was arrested by the Nazis.
Thanks for the link. Difficult to find information on this. It is not like Hollywood makes movies about communist atrocities.
Rigg should adopt the research methods of Bellesiles who is so highly original that he doesnt even sources!
I get the feeling there is much more behind the European attitude toward Israel that we don't understand in America. Censored books like this one, widely praised by diverse readers, seem to be slowly opening doors to that knowledge. I wonder what we will eventually find out?
I agree.
Hitler's Jewish Soldiers:
The Untold Story of
Nazi Racial Laws and
Men of Jewish Descent
in the German Military
by Bryan Mark Rigg
Sounds like a most fascinating book, I'd like to read it.
This guy is a name to watch. He has an upcoming book listed on Amazon.com, "Rescued by the Reich: How One of Hitler's Soldiers Saved the Lubavitcher Rebbe". Not yet published but you can pre-order or put it on your wish list. The story sounds fascinating and he did some deep research.
I am reading a Book by a guy who was in the 401st Glider of the 101st Airborne division, WWII.
During the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne his platoon was split with another and facing enemy tanks. He was wounded and they were overrun.
He was taken prisoner, one of the prisoners with a minor wound in the basement, was a Jewish Tech Sgt, they took him out and shot him before morning.
So much for how they Nazi's felt about Jews.
I've heard this story before, but according to the version that I heard, the Rebbe was captured by the NKVD (the Soviets) who had a Jewish agent.
Not sure which version is true. My son in New York is an editor for Kehot publishers and has access to a great deal of "classified" information which is kept by the Hasidic sect and is not published. He might know the truth about this anecdote.
bump.
