Imagine if a Republican-controlled committee in Congress had attempted to keep the public and the media away from a key hearing and vote on, say, a bill to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. The outrage would have been deafening--and rightly so.

Good god, the zoning in the city where I live currently sets the limit at one home for every 2 1/2 acres.

500 families per acre????

My God, this is utter nonsense. It would never fly. Frankly, the last place I want to be living is any place that resmembles having to live in NYC!!

Aaaaaargh! This makes me so mad. Just who the h*ll does the Sierra Club think it is? They want us all to live like squirrels in trees I guess. Sickening.

I think I'm going to write a letter to the editor. Wonder if either of my Senators are on this dumba$$ committee.

"500 families per acre????"

This stuff is for real. The Sierra Club and others want to confine humans into small areas of ground so that the remaining 90% or so of the country can be turned into a wildlife preserve. They've postulated the idea of returning the great plains to the buffalo for example, even if this requires removing all humans from Kansas to North Dakota and Colorado to Mo.

One of their major objectives for such high population densities, is the death of the automobile and the suburbs. These folks see these two things as intimately related. One cannot exist without the other. They realize that mass transit simply is impracticle in the suburbs so the solution is to destroy the suburbs and force population densities high enough to support it.

And, don't think these will be luxury condos either. One environmentalist whose name escapes me, extolls the virtue of a program developed for Nepal as an example that has utility here in the US. This wonderful program placed a solar panel on each hut providing sufficient power for a light bulb, a hot plate, and a small radio. But, if there's enough people living in your condo, you can always use the TV provided in the public commons. Don't worry about argueing about the channel since all channels will be the same environmental programs.

excellent response. Don't forget we will not be allowed air conditioners, that the washing machines we will have to use will be environmentaly "nice" while they cost and arm and leg, and that we will not be able to use the so called "public" lands for any human use!

And, we certainly wouldn't allow deodorant either. Might offended. Simply not allowed. Allergies you know.

again, correct to some "Degree" hahahah! If you catch my drift! Folks in urban areas have no idea what is happening to us rural Americans! Oh and don't forget, those of us that choose to smoke, will not be allowed!

You two got that right. Prisons isn't that densely populated. Even India is not the densely populated.

These guys are out of their minds.

Yes, they are. Too bad not enough people realize it.

If they forced people to do this, there would be blood knee-deep in the streets.

I cannot think of even ONE TIME in history, where anyone (including the Nazi's and Socialists/Communists) tried to fit 500 families (average 4 per family; 2000 people) per acre.

This idea goes way beyond insanity. The people who support these types of idea, need to be locked up for OUR safety, NOT THEIRS.
