Dems Rip Bush on Social Security (feel the love)

WASHINGTON --

Senate Democrats are continuing to separate their support for President Bush in the war on terrorism from their strong opposition to his policies on such issues as Social Security.

In the Democratic radio address aired Saturday, Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., said the party has an obligation to defend and strengthen Social Security.

"In recent months, President Bush and congressional Republicans have again pushed for raids on Social Security to finance tax breaks for large corporations, including -- incredibly -- a $250 million tax break for Enron," Corzine said.

"As you might imagine, these raids would jeopardize the long-term financial security of hardworking American families."

Corzine voiced his criticism after acknowledging that Democrats "stand with the president in the war on terrorism."

But he accused Republicans of wanting to "privatize Social Security, taking trillions of dollars from the fund to finance private accounts, and forcing deep cuts in guaranteed benefits."

"Republican congressional leaders want to wait until after the fall elections before revealing their plans to privatize Social Security and cut your benefits. They want to sweep these cuts under the rug," Corzine argued.

The Senate and House have yet to debate any legislation seeking to overhaul the Social Security system.

In his campaign, Bush argued that allowing people to invest part of their Social Security contributions would allow them to maximize their money.

Corzine said the plan could mean retirees would end up with less money than under the current system.

"Social Security is the safety net of last resort for seniors, the disabled and families who lose a breadwinner," he said. "Privatizing the program would shred that safety net."

Social Security won't matter if we lose the war. DUH!
Ever notice the Democrats use fear to back all their propaganda? The earth is burning up, school children are starving, elderly will die, trains carrying nucluar waste will crash in your back yark, caraboo will be slaughtered, a pregnant mothers life will be destroyed by giving birth, ......
When was the last time they actually had something good to say?

According to recent e-mails, the Democrat party plans to adopt the Republican message to get through the election, but AFTER the election, the message will go back to fear tactics once more.
Watch for Democrats to start agreeing with Republicans, but remember, they lie.

Another laughable attempt to poke holes in the President. All of a sudden the Democrats are screaming about how much they "care" about Social Security. (What have they proposed to save the system? answer: NOTHING.)

I remember Jimmy Carter used the SS scare tactic as a last ditch effort to save his Presidency in 1980. The only difference this time around is that the 'rats are using the issue THIS time in Congressional elections.

I frankly think the 'rats are running scared--they see their grip on power in the Senate disappearing, their margins in the House getter larger, and the White House at least another six years away. They know Cheney will not become another Al Gore, that Colin Powell has had ample opportunity to bail from this administration over Middle East differences and has remained loyal, and that the team in the White House, despite the rants about "giving up principles" from the right is dedicated to governing intelligently.

The 'rats know it, and see no hope on the horizon.

For God's sakes, they're floating the trial balloon of JOHN McCAIN as their next candidate!! They know the game is over.

Don't rest on your laurels, fellow FREEPers, and get ready for a Conservative government in 2003 and 2004. :)

Incredibly--a $250 million tax break to Enron

Never mind the FACT that the AMT rebates died with the passage of the negotiated Tax Bill.

Corzine is banking on the idiocy of the average voter, as the lying gutter-scum rats always do.

Nearly 7 million government workers pay no social security taxes and have every dime of their pension invested in the markets. Republicans need to call liberals on this everytime they try to scare people about private accounts.

As Rush points out -- there is NO Social Security trust fund. Any time it is mentioned, you are listening to someone who is willing to lie about the subject. If Bush's war on terror is depleting the SS trust fund, then so is Tommy D and his lobbyist wife's airline bail-out bill.
