And where exactly did I say we should? I was simply addressing an issue raised by a fellow FReeper and brother in Christ. The founders believed our inalienable rights were given to us by God and that it was the moral responsibility of any government to protect those rights. They established a constitutional republic believing that it was the best way to accomplish that. As I see it, any disregard for the Constitution can and should be considered as a violation of that sacred trust. If you think I'm a backward-thinking buffoon for holding on to moral absolutes and expecting our elected officials to respect the sacred trust given to them, then I guess that makes me a backward-thinking buffoon.
"And no, I won't accept the line that Christianity is above the Islam teachings."
Then you have bigger eternal issues to be concerned with rather than worrying about some "pittyfull pitiful political nitpicking" morons who "can not cannot find their asses with both hands, but shure sure can give the President tips how to run the country, and then come on this forum to whine and moan that GWB is a looser loser."
"Remember the Inquisition?"
For your information, the Inquisition was conducted by evil men who had no grasp of the teachings of Christianity. A brief perusal of Scripture would make that clear. In fact, the teachings of Christianity served as the foundation of this nation, so I wouldn't write them off so casually if I were you.
And without violence?
That is probably NOT what you said when clinton was in office.
I did not called you any names,... you volunteered for one reason or another,(self deprecation perhaps).
Further more, from your reply, all I've got was some spelling corrections. Is this all you have got going? Not a whole lot if you asked me! ...BTW did my grammar/spelling pleases you this time?
If you care to check me out, my handle explains pretty much where I am standing, right along with the "Constitution", but at the same time I am a realistic enough person to make the difference between 1776(take or give a few years) and 2002. Thats why we have the "law makers", to make, amend additional laws within the "framers" written "Bill of Rights", and adapted to the needs of our contemporary time.
You are right, this nation was initially formed by pilgrims with christian beliefs, you are right the "dollar" still reads "In God we thrust", you are right in the court room we still say "so God help me", but in reality the makeshift of America now a days is totally different.
We have to many etnically different entities making up our modern society, whereby the 1776 rules can not be applied, due to societal complexity we live in.
Rigidity is not the answer...like the "sacred trust"
"Sacred trust" is more like a guide line than a point to follow...IMHO.
...and what makes you believe you have a "grasp" of the cristian teachings?!!!!
Not directly, but you did use the word "morons" to describe those of us who are trying to hold President Bush's feet to the fire. I, for one, still believe that the citizens of this nation have freedom of speech and are obligated to involve themselves in the political process, especially when they see constitutional abuses taking place. We are not boasting that our wisdom is "above and beyond reproach," we are simply saying, "Look. The Constitution says one thing and the president is doing another. Shouldn't we be concerned about that?"
"Rigidity is not the answer...like the 'sacred trust.' 'Sacred trust' is more like a guide line than a point to follow..."
In other words, the Constitution is a "living, breathing document." As long as I know where you're coming from...
"...and what makes you believe you have a 'grasp' of the cristian teachings?!!!!"
Well, my grasp of Christian teachings comes from reading the Bible (just like my grasp of constitutional principles comes from reading the Constitution). You'd be amazed at what you can learn from the inspired Word of God. He has some pretty interesting things to say about how His children should conduct themselves, and torturing "heretics" to death isn't one of the things He endorses.
