" It is customary in this country to use courts of law to determine the guilt or innocence of a person. "

Yes it is!

So , why then would the pope choose to avoid this process by hiding a accused man in the vatican?

Who says he is "hiding?" I really don't think the Pope will snub his nose at America's rule of law.

Everyone seems so concerned about what the Pope says, what about God almighty? What does He say?

Has He had any press conferences recently? Issued any communiques recently? The moment He does, I'm sure Fox will cover it, and Catholic commentators will be all over it.

Does anyone else think this is obstruction of justice and/or contempt of court? Any individual or corporation trying to help a material witness flee the country prior to being deposed is surely guilty of at least these two.

I'm ashamed to admit I'm a member of the Catholic Church. As of now, I'm rethinking my whole affiliation. Anyone concerned about the welfare of minors, theirs or others, should be doing the same. If the Church goes through with this, it will amply show that it is not being guided by the Holy Spirit, but instead by the Evil One. I can't believe the Church of my ancestors is stooping to this. For shame.

Duh, hello? Cardinal Law was out of the country each of the last two weeks. If the civil authorities in Mass were worried about him "fleeing" they would have not permitted him to leave. Are they guilty, too?

I hardly think that Cardinal Law looks at this as a promotion.

More like an exile.

Not so fast fatso, you have a depostion coming up next month.

I read this quickly and thought you were referring to me!!! I watch my weight!!! All kidding aside, he was supposed to be deposed June 6, so there you have it. On the other hand, I guess if he was going to go, they'd want to do it before the Cardinals meet in June - no sense in Law attending if he is no longer in charge of a diocese.

If it weren't for the Catholic Church and faithful Catholics, there would have been no Christian pilgrims to begin with because Europe would have been overrun with Moslems and they would have converted just like everyone else who the Moslems conquered. Here is a link for you to read Christiandom vs. Islam [632-1199] , which details the first part of our struggle with Islam. Second part to follow when I have the time.

If you are one of those people who would rather destroy the Catholic church instead of helping us rid her of homosexuals, then you do nothing but aid the Islamic enemy.

I wish you know-it-alls would do a little research before shooting from the hip.

Good point...I don't know...well hopefully they will "clean house" and institute the "one strike you are out" and do a better job of eliminating the bad apples before they put them in the basket and make the policy retroactive.

Convenient: it gets him out of the way before the RICO suits and the grand juries start.

Don't get your faith and what the Church teaches mixed up with fallible sinners - given your stance, due to the actions of Judas, no one would have followed Christs' Church. Remember your Confirmation - you are a foot soldier of Christ. He needs you now.

I didn't say "Cardinal Law should give criminals the benefit of the doubt" I said we should give Cardinal Law the benefit of the doubt...

i cant believe this guy hasnt the shame of a streetwalker, to only resign now, thinking to himself that he was still qualified to be a rep. of Christ. wow.

He cannot resign and he did not resign - the Pope is the only one who can reassign a Cardinal.

I have no great love for Cardinal Law, in fact, I pity him - for the rest of his life he will live with his actions and lack thereof. Aren't we all sinners and aren't we all representatives of Christ? Are any of us really "qualified" or worthy of that?

Well, that may be so, but I will tell you that as a member of the Archdiocese of Boston, Cardinal Law is hurting the Church - I also wonder about his safety here. He'll do far less spiritual damage to the flock if he is in Rome - and I think that the Pope knew that.

Nope.
