I am glad to see that you are an Adams fan to the point that you find it necessary to post a mini-biography of the man simply due to the mention of his name. That being said, I fail to see the purpose of your post or how it pertains specifically to any of the issues being debated here beyond the loose connection already established to the figure of Henry Adams. Just this: beware of using Adams to establish the cynicism or manipulativeness of people or even the reasons why they do what they do. His perceptions are often the result of his own cynicism, rather than the deviousness or unscrupulousness of the people he writes about.
