To be honest with you I do not know why it is prohibited. I think I would be safe in saying "societial and/or religious standards". Should it be though? Has it always been?

And there is big difference between marriage and an S&M fest, in regardes to the authority that government has over the two. Marriage is a legal contract.

That is nowhere in the same ballpark as sodomy between consenting adults in private. Legal marriage is way more than folks hooking up and doing the white picket fence thing-- your whole financial and legal life is tied up with this person you're married to... This is why folks have a problem with gays hooking up and whatnot... Adoption privileges, credit ratings, insurance, all that crap is affected by a legal marriage...
