Mexican Plants Lose Work to China

Despite signs the Mexican economy is beginning to recover after a yearlong recession, the maquiladora industry will likely take some time to pick up again, Economy Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez told reporters Monday.

Derbez didn't give exact numbers, but he said many maquiladora factories have moved to China. Others have moved to different parts of Asia and Central America, where salaries can be a $1 less per hour.

China is tearing everybody up. Land is given to industry. They have, and are further developing excellent educational institutions. They recognize no patents or copyrights. They have cheap labor, even at the highest levels. You haven't seen anything yet.
