The .50 cal Shooters Association is a good place to seek information. They have a website. www.fcsa.org I have a friend with a State Arms single shot. Good accuracy. The choice all depends on what is the intended use. P.S. A .50 with a decent brake has no more recoil than a 12 Gauge shotgun. Erik

You're talking my personal language now but I do try to keep up to date.

I deer hunt with either a .54 Jaeger or a .45 Cub....both by Pedersoli. I shoot max/minies over sabots. I like the punch. I use the lighter Cub when I know I'll be more mobile and my 12 year old daughter is NOT with me...it's her gun. I've got a custom super curly maple Appalachin style mountain rifle in .50 which is 1/77 twist and only shoots ball....it's too purty to hunt with..an heirloom only for the range. If I'm at a serious trophy deer camp, I'll use a Remington muzzleloader with a scope...mainly for twilight shooting. I also am well versed with cap revolvers...preferring the Ruger Old Army or a well made Walker.
I was raised on modern firearms and try to keep up though. Mrs Wardaddy owns a .38 titanium hammerless..perfect for her.

Patched round ball over 60 grains of FFFG with a couple of grains of FFFFG in the pan. Fifty-caliber shooting doesn't get any better than that!
