My best friend was a regular caller (Steve from Los Alamitos), who later parlayed his frequent calling into an internship with the Rome show while he was attending LMU in Los Angeles. And after that, he parlayed the internship into a full time job; my friend Steve now does post-game shows for Clipper games, and covers UCLA home games, for XTRA Sports 1150 in Los Angeles. I'm trying real hard to remember his name while he was on Rome's show -- I think it was "Phone Boy" -- he won at least one of the Smack Downs.
