I did some reading on this a while back. Yes, a very long incubation period. Up to 10, sometimes 20 years...though for some it hits very quickly. The problem is, it's not a bacteria or a virus. It's a protein, and a very difficult to break protein. It remains deadly after burning, boiling, freezing, whatever.
What is up with that state these days? Geez...
