The larger Pipers have a range over 1200nm. The smaller (modern) ones have a range of about 700nm.

Assuming this was a larger one (Malibu), comming from Switzerland would have left him with about 900lbs of fuel; comming from Slovenia he would have had maybe 400lbs (65 gal) left. (But these are just rough guesses)

Yes, but remember the Florida thing? There was no fire at all...

FYI -- here's a map that has a mileage scale on it. Does anyone know how much gas would still be in the tank after a flight of about 100-150 km?
