"this plane must have been loaded with fuel"
My impression was the oppposite - the fire went out extremely fast.

The larger Pipers have a range over 1200nm. The smaller (modern) ones have a range of about 700nm.
Assuming this was a larger one (Malibu), comming from Switzerland would have left him with about 900lbs of fuel; comming from Slovenia he would have had maybe 400lbs (65 gal) left. (But these are just rough guesses)

>My impression was the oppposite - the fire went out extremely fast. Yes, but remember the Florida thing? There was no fire at all...
FYI -- here's a map that has a mileage scale on it. Does anyone know how much gas would still be in the tank after a flight of about 100-150 km?
